Students considering a major offered by the Electrical and Computer Engineering department should take physics (PHYS 101, PHYS 102) and calculus (MATH 101 or MATH 105, MATH 102 or MATH 106) in their first year, along with COMP 140.

Applicants must submit a minimum score of 100 for exams taken before January 21, 2026. For exams taken on or after January 21, 2026, Rice requires a minimum overall score of 5.0 on the updated TOEFL iBT scale. Rice requires exam results from a single individual exam administration and does not accept TOEFL myBestScores. TOEFL iBT Home Edition will be accepted. Rice's TOEFL code is 6609.
Rice University requires the IELTS Academic test. We do not accept the IELTS General Training test type for undergraduate admission. A minimum score of 7.0 is required.
