This course provides all aspects of environmental trainings of sampling and analysis, focusing on the monitoring of major environmental problems in different environmental media. This course combines the theory study and experiment, providing the trainings of analytical technique of monitoring pollutants in the ambient atmosphere, indoor air, water, soil, and sediment. The students are expected to learn the experiment design, sampling, sample process, instrument operation, data analysis, and QAQC etc. The college facility will be provided for this course, i.e. the State Key Laboratory, the Monitoring Station of Urban Air Quality of Peking University. The students are required to familiar with pretreatment of samples, operation and calibration of the various environmental monitoring instruments. After this course, the students should have the basic ability of environmental monitoring in scientific research work.

环境科学是研究人类生存的环境的科学。包括环境质量的研究和调查，对环境的保护及改善。这里的环境，包括自然环境和社会环境。环境科学为制定环境质量标准、污染物排放标准等提供科学依据，也为环境政策和立法等提供依据。这是一门综合性很强的学科，涉及数理、生化等多方面知识的综合。
